Horse Training
What we Do
Ridgeline Horse Tours does all our own training. We train every horse that our guests ride, and now we can offer this service to other horse owners! Our horses participate in competitions of every discipline (rodeo coming soon!!), and are gentle, sane and willing. We train the family horse. So if you want a companion that will be able to function politely at a show, and ride down the trail alone, understands leg and rein aids, has terrific ground manners, and wants to please you we can help you achieve that.
We do NOT train horses to compete in your chosen discipline. However, if you are looking for a horse that will behave itself at a competition we can accomplish it with you. Your horses will learn the skills they need to be a functioning member of society. The ideal horse is road safe, not buddy sour, polite with other horses, rides in front of a group or behind, rides alone, understands ground work and has excellent ground manners, and has experience with gates, jumps and ropes. In other words, it is the perfect, well rounded Alaskan family horse.
Training can be offered with board included (20+ acre pasture with a herd of horses and run in shelters), or at your current location so long as the location meets our needs for training. If kept at your current location, there must be a safe round pen, a larger safe flat riding area with grass/dirt/sand type footing.
Horses that are boarded will be fed free feed grass in the summer, and free feed hay in the winter. The first month is $700 for 4 to 5 days a week of training, each day being 1 to 3 hours of work per horse. Some horses require only one month to accomplish their goals, while others may require 2 or 4 or even 6. After the first month, the fee may be reduced.
Without board the training fee is $625 a month, which includes travel costs to and from your location.
We have experience in problem horses, endurance riding, dressage, jumping, cross country, extreme trail, and hunting from horseback.
Feel free to contact us with questions about our methods, and we welcome people to view a training session with one of our horses in progress.
